Commentators in any sports play a very important role. They help the viewers understand and connect with the sports. Similarly, in WWE the commentators does a thankless job. They announce matches, helps in delivering story-lines, and are equally important as any other wrestler.
Over the years, WWE has witnessed several talented and outstanding commentators who have made the sport much more entertaining than it is. They have been given their proper due, and, have etched their name in history as the best announcers of all times. Here are four such legends.
4. Gene Okerlund
He was an outstanding commentator and announcer who died recently. 'Mean' Gene Okerlund, as he was affectionately called, has interviewed hundreds of superstars and must have announced many more matches. The WWE Universe would forever be indebted to this man.
Okerlund has set a standard which his successors have desperately tried to match, but none could live up to the hype he used to generate. He is a former Hall of Fame inductee and would forever be remembered by the WWE Universe.
3. Jerry Lawler
Jerry Lawler was one of the best sports entertainer ever. He worked as a wrestler, announcer and a commentator as well. He was highly lauded by everyone for his commentating skills. Lawler even put his body on the line while performing his duty, when he suffered from a mild heart attack during a live event.
He is also a former Hall of Fame inductee in WWE and has competed in many glorious matches. He always feuded over the mic with Michael Cole and gifted the WWE his unique voice. He is one of the greatest commentators of all time.
2. Jim Ross
Jim Ross is one of those veterans who has been associated with WWE since its beginning and continues the good work even today. He has announced several classic matches and was a commentator who carried swag with him. He was fondly called as 'good old JR' and had been the voice of WWE for over the years. Ross described matches in an excellent fashion and thus makes the list of the greatest of all times.
1. Michael Cole
No matter how much one hates him onscreen, one cannot deny that he has perfected the role of a heel commentator. Cole basically does everything that Vince McMahon asks him to do, and, needless to say he is excellent in following orders. Michael Cole has been involved in several segments and have always used his presence of mind to entertain people. Cole is one of the best commentators in modern times and deserves the number one spot on this list.
