The Golden State Warriors are having an identity crisis after Kevin Durant and Draymond Green got into a heated argument during the last few second of a game.
Iron Man matches are very grueling in nature. They have altered the careers of several players and is regarded as perhaps the most demanding match in professional pro-wrestling. These kind of matches last from 30 minutes to one hour and have special stipulations for them.
In WWE, over the years, several Iron Man matches have taken place, which have given rise to many story-lines, feuds and rivalries that has altered the course of WWE forever. This matches have created new superstars and also turned many players into villains.
Here, in this list, we bring you five such Iron Man matches, which are all time classic and is a treat to watch anytime.
5. Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle
Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle had a bitter rivalry in 2003-04. They both feuded over the WWE Championship. Both these players were at their peak then and was probably the best wrestler WWE had then.
The rivalry intensified, and to put things in the right perspective, WWE management decided to schedule an Iron Man match on SmackDown, September 18 2003. The match witnessed raining F5 and Angle Lock. Both the players dominated over one another.
In the end, Lesnar defeated Kurt Angle with a score 5-4 and won the WWE title. It was the first time, the title changed hands on SmackDown and was thus a historic match.
4. Chris Benoit vs Triple H
Chris Benoit had a long rivalry with Evolution and particularly with Triple H. They have fought each other several times for the World Heavyweight Championship. One such encounter occured on RAW July 26th 2004 for the Heavyweight title.
Benoit was the defending Champion and Triple H was the challenger. Both these wrestlers tried everything possible to annihilate one another. Triple H used several underhand tactics throughout the match.
In the end, beating all the odds, Benoit won with 4-3 points on the scoreboard against Triple H.
3. Rock vs Triple H
Out of the several rivalries that the WWE has witnessed, Rock and Triple H's rivalry was perhaps the best. Both these players had all love lost for each other. The intensity of the rivalry was so much, that in the end, it took an Iron Man match to settle the differences.
At Judgement Day PPV in 2000, Rock defended his WWE Championship against Triple H. Rock did a pin-fall and the score looked 1-0. However, Triple H used his skills and made the score look 3-1 in his favor. But, Rock had the last laugh and pulled three more victories and the score was 4-3 in Rock's favor. He successfully defended his title.
2. Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart
This rivalry is perhaps the best rivalry the world has ever witnessed in professional pro-wrestling. This was the third Iron Man match in the history of WWE and it took place in WrestleMania 12 in 1996. Both Michaels and Hart were at the peak of their career.
This two players had a lot of animosity between them. Bret Hart was the WWE Champion and Shawn Michaels was the challenger. These two players put their bodies on the line and yet could not score a victory in the entire one hour duration. The match was extended, and in the overtime, Michaels delivered a sweet chin music to Hart and scored a pin-fall. He won the match 1-0 and the WWE title as well.
1. John Cena vs Randy Orton
This is perhaps the best Iron Man match ever in the history of sports entertianment. John Cena and Randy Orton, two of the best wrestlers in the world, decided to settle the differences and encountered in an Iron Man Match at the Bragging Rights PPV in 2009.
Orton was the WWE Champion and John Cena was the challenger. Both these players kept the momentum in their favor by scoring successive victories over one another. The score looked 5-5 in the end with just one minute left. It seemed as if the match would end in a draw. However, in the very last minute Cena pulled a miracle and delivered STF to a handcuffed Randy Orton. Unable to bear the pain, Orton tapped and Cena won 6-5 and became the WWE Champion again.
