John Cena is one of the best wrestlers of his generation. He has an impeccable record in the WWE. The word 'give up' probably does not exist in his dictionary. He loves to fight and is one of the greatest World Champions of all time. Cena is thus, without a doubt a future Hall of Fame inductee in WWE.

However, in his career, there has been moments, where he has failed to secure victories. There are certain superstars, who came out of nowhere and defeaed John Cena. Those loses served as a setback in Cena's career. However, he did came back stronger.

Here are five of his shocking defeats in the WWE.

Rusev is the Bulgarian monster who is one of the most dominating players in WWE. He had an ongoing rivalry with Cena and faced him at the Fastlane PPV in 2015. Certainy, 2015 was not the year for Cena. He suffered several humiliating loses, including this match.

Cena tried to perform his signature move several times but Rusev kept countering. Rusev, on the other hand tried to perform his submission move which Cena escaped. In the end, Rusev managed to successfully put the submission upon Cena. Even though Cena didn't tap, but he wasn't responsive and thus lost the match. It was one of those rarest moments, when Cena lost in a submission move.

It is a dream for any rookie, to make a name for himself, by defeating John Cena. Kevin Owens achieved the same. He was the then NXT Champion and was scheduled to face Cena, the then US Champion, at the Elimination Chamber PPV in 2015. The match was a one helluva competition.

The match lasted for over 20 minutes, and both the players tried everything to defeat one another. Cena performed an Attitude Adjustment on Owens, but Owens had the last laugh. He performed a powerbomb and pinned Cena and thus won the match.

Not many wrestlers have the unique feat of winning a Championship match in their very first match. Carlito created history, when he made his debut on SmackDown, and faced John Cena for the United States Championship. He performed as a heel and shocked the entire Universe by defeating John Cena.

Carlito used a chain, and attacked Cena which the referee didn't see. He knocked Cena out and pinned him to win his first ever title in the WWE. The WWE Universe was highly disappointed with this move from the creative team of the WWE. Nevertheless, Carlito received a good push.

Edge shocked the whole world, when he cashed in his Money in the Bank conract upon John Cena. Just before that, Cena defended his WWE Championship in a very grueling Elimination Chamber match. He was in no state to compete any more. But, Mr. McMahon announced that Cena will face Edge for the WWE title.

Edge wasted no time and delivered a deadly spear to John Cena. He quickly went for the cover and secured a pinfall, and in the process, earned his first ever WWE Championship. Even though Cena lost the match, but he won the hearts of the people.

Even though the Undertaker defeated John Cena previously, he defeated him once more at the grandest stage of sports entertainment. Cena reportedly called out the Undertaker on several shows, but received no response from him. He decided to wait as a fan and watch the PPV, and would wait for the Undertaker to accept his challenge.

Much to the delight of the entire WWE Universe, the Undertaker showed up and faced John Cena. Cena could not bear the wrath of the Undertaker. The Undertaker countered each and every move of Cena. He delivered a nerve-wrecking Tombstone to Cena and finished the match in just less than 3 minutes. The Undertaker once again established his supremacy at WrestleMania, and thus defeated John Cena.
