NBA First Half Awards
With the season just over halfway done, let's look at the major awards. Feel free to disagree but it's James Hardens world right now and we're just living in it.
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning were both first-round draft picks in the 2004 NFL Draft. Roethlisberger is 36 years old and he has had a history of injuries throughout his career. Manning is 37 years old and he has never been hurt in his career.
Ben Roethlisberger is one of the reasons why the Pittsburgh Steelers are off to a 3-2-1 start this season. Eli Manning might be the reason why the New York Giants are off to a 1-5 start and some players in the locker room wouldn't mind a change at quarterback.
Who has had the better NFL career, Roethlisberger or Manning?
Let's take a look at the numbers first before I make my case. In Ben Roethlisberger's career, he has completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 53,098 yards 341 touchdowns and 180 interceptions, in 206 games. Roethlisberger has also rushed for 1,290 yards on 451 carries and 17 touchdowns.
In Eli Manning's career, he has completed 60.1 percent of his passes for 53,344 yards 345 touchdowns and 232 interceptions, in 222 games. Manning has also rushed for 552 yards on 304 carries and six touchdowns.
Roethlisberger has played in 16 less games and he has just as many yards than Manning and not as far behind in touchdowns. That is equivalent to an entire season that Big Ben has missed. If he played as many games as Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger would have a lot more touchdowns and yards. Manning has thrown double if not triple the interceptions Roethlisberger has thrown. Eli Manning has led the league in interceptions at least three times in his NFL career.
Even though Eli Manning has two Super Bowl MVP's and Ben Roethlisberger doesn't, the eye test is clear that Roethlisberger is a better quarterback. He has been to the playoffs nine times in his career. Roethlisberger has been to three Super Bowls and has won two of them.
Eli Manning has been to the playoffs six times. His playoff record is 8-4. Roethlisberger's is 12-7.
Ben Roethlisberger has had 40 game-winning drives in his NFL career. Eli Manning has had 35 game-winning drives in his NFL career.
In their respective careers, Ben Roethlisberger has been a better quarterback. One of the reasons why is because he didn't Antiono Brown to save his NFL career and Eli Manning needed Odell Beckham Jr. needed to save his carrer.
Roethlisberger is a lot better at throwing the ball down the field and he isn't afraid to take a hit. Manning doesn't like to take hits.
Ben Roethlisberger will most likely have no problem getting into the Hall of Fame. Some people think Eli Manning will not get in the Hall of Fame and some people think he will. With the way he has played the past couple of seasons, it is looking like Manning will not go in, but you never know.
