Joel Embiid Should be Considered an MVP Candidate
It is only January and a lot of people are talking about either James Harden or Giannis Antetokounmpo to win the MVP, but what about Joel Embiid?
The Milwaukee Bucks are dominating the Eastern Conference with a record of 28-11. They are currently sitting on top of the NBA and have a legitimate chance to win the Eastern Conference. Will they make it to the NBA Finals or fall short?
Giannis Antetokounmpo has been leading the Bucks this year and he has looked unstoppable. He leads the league in dunks and if he gets to the paint, he is almost always going to score. But it isn’t just his scoring that has improved. He is passing the ball well and is a great shot blocker. And he is still getting better.
This season, Antetokounmpo is averaging 26.6 points per game, 12.6 rebounds per game and 6 assists per game. Those are amazing stats! He gets more rebounds than a lot of centers in the NBA. He does it all for the Bucks and he is still improving. His mid-range jumpshot is getting better and he is shooting the three-pointer more.
Opposing teams cannot stop him in the paint so they want him to take outside shots. He will get open shots and if he makes those consistently, there is nothing the other team can do besides double team him. He might be the scariest player in the NBA and he is only 24 years old.
The Bucks have the talent to make a run to the NBA Finals but they have a few obstacles in the Eastern Conference. Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics are still one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference. I think that the Bucks can beat them in a seven-game series. Boston has struggled with its identity this year while the Bucks have found theirs.
I think that the same thing will happen between the Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bucks are the better team and will come out on top. The 76ers added Jimmy Butler this season but he hasn't been enough of a spark for them.
The only team that I believe is better than the Bucks in the Eastern Conference is the Toronto Raptors. Adding Kawhi Leonard has made them much better and they are my pick to win the Eastern Conference. The Bucks are playing great but I think their role players need more experience and this is the year when they will get that experience.
What separates the Raptors from the Bucks in experience. Toronto has been making the playoff for the last couple of years and this year, their bench has excelled. Talent is great but if it isn't molded, it won't make much of a difference.
Even if the Bucks fall short this year, they will cement their status as one of the best teams in the NBA. And next year, they will have the tools to make an even better attempt to make the NBA Finals.
