Is Kyrie Irving Planning to Leave the Celtics?
The Boston Celtics are worried that Kyrie Irving will leave instead of resign with them. Should the Celtics be worried?
Imagine a sixty-yard touchdown pass only to called back on a holding call. That basically describes Dez Bryant’s season. Similar to a touchdown called back, Bryant’s season was over before It even got going.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, sources told him that Dez suffered a torn Achilles during Friday’s practice. The injury came two days after Bryant signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. Dez went to Twitter to respond to the disappointing news.
The Saints were impressed by Bryant’s initial workout with the team. He practiced for the first time on Thursday and got injured during Friday’s practice. Dez was running a route when his Achilles gave out. He is currently seeking a second opinion from a doctor. However, if anyone can read between the lines, Bryant’s tweet indicates he is likely out for the season.
Dez was excited to play for the Saints before the injury. “Who wouldn’t want to play for Drew Brees?” He also was motivated by the idea of playing with Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara. Not to mention the fact that the Saints have been one of the best teams in the NFL.
Last Sunday, the Saints beat the undefeated Los Angeles Rams. Despite the victory, they were short-handed at the receiver position when Cameron Meredith went down with an injury. That’s when Dez become a viable option.
Bryant career has taken a bit of nose dive since his contract extension. The last time he made first-team All-Pro in was in 2014. The next three seasons he failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards. Ultimately, Bryant’s underachieving performance led to the Dallas Cowboys releasing him in April.
In the offseason, the market was pretty dry for Dez. Only the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns expressed interested in him. He was determined to not only play for a contender but play against his former team.
Dez flirted with the idea of joining the Cowboys after it was clear they needed him. Rumors began to swirl after Dez and Jerry Jones were seen hanging out at a concert. Jones set the record straight. “If it were in our best interest, he would be on the field for the Cowboys.”
Dallas took a step further and traded a first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders for the Amari Cooper. After signing with the Cowboys appeared to be dead, there was doubt Dez would get signed by anyone. The Saints represented a journey of redemption for Bryant. Unfortunately, that journey will have to wait until next season.
