Joel Embiid Should be Considered an MVP Candidate
It is only January and a lot of people are talking about either James Harden or Giannis Antetokounmpo to win the MVP, but what about Joel Embiid?
In a less than spectacular FA Cup final, Chelsea endure 90 minutes of pressure to achieve cup glory. This was Mourinho's first domestic final loss in England ever! With Conte's pressure slightly alleviated following cup triumph, we take a look at how the players performed over the game.
Thibaut Courtois- 8/10
Man of the Match today. Was sublime and confident when making his stops. Kept a clean sheet and thwarted out any of United's shots. A performance that will definitely improve his confidence with the Blues.
Key Stat- Courtois made 5 saves against the Red Devils.
Antonio Rudiger- 7/10
Solid from the German today. Looked comfortable, and on occasion drove up on that left hand side to play a long ball.
Gary Cahill- 7/10
The Englishman looked strong in the center of defense. Was able to cope with Marcus Rashford and played a performance that seemed like he rolled back the years.
Cesar Azpilicueta- 7/10
Another solid performance from the Spaniard. Was able to deal with the skillful Alexis Sanchez. Didn't play many long balls to Oliver Giroud however.
Marcos Alonso- 7/10
Alonso did well on the left flank. Linked with Hazard when he dropped deep and even managed to throw in some crosses.
Tiemoue Bakayoko- 6/10
Is slowly starting to fit into Conte's side. Wasn't tasked with much today as he provided defensive cover and short pass linkage.
N'Golo Kante- 7/10
Probably one of Chelsea's most consistent this season, Kante undoubtedly delivered. He made 4 interceptions and 6 tackles. Kante is like no other and is really valued at Chelsea. An impenetrable brick wall the Frenchmen is.
Key Stat- Kante had a 100% tackle success rate (6/6 tackles).
Cesc Fabregas- 7/10
The Spaniard had a satisfactory performance. Impressively played a long ball to Hazard which won the Blues a penalty.
Victor Moses- 6/10
Moses didn't have too much to do today. With Hazard drifting deep on the left hand side, Moses could really only play a pass to Giroud or cross.
Eden Hazard- 7/10
The Belgian was Chelsea's second best player today but without a doubt was the most lively. Hazard ripped through space and defenders like a formula one car in an empty highway. Was able to win and cleanly convert a penalty. The Belgian is a glimmering sapphire for the Blues.
Key Stat- Hazard won the most dribbles in the Fa Cup final (3).
Oliver Giroud- 6/10
The man who claimed Wembley was his garden didn't have much to do. Linked up with Hazard and won some headers but nothing else.
David De Gea- 6/10
The colossus that stands in front of his goal could do nothing about the penalty today. Had a semi quiet game only making 2 saves.
Ashley Young- 7/10
Young went up the pitch as much as he could but had to cover the space that Pogba left. Had to defend diligently at times completing 3 tackles.
Phil Jones- 5/10
Jones had a poor performance. Got a yellow card after stretching his leg to make Eden Hazard fall and conceded a penalty. Seemed uncomfortable in the defense and was bullied by Giroud most of the time.
Key Stat- Jones had completed 0 tackles during the match.
Chris Smalling- 7/10
Tried everything he can do to prevent Chelsea from scoring but there was nothing he could do about the penalty. Other than that he played a convincing performance.
Antonio Valencia- 7/10
Valencia had the demanding task of defending Eden Hazard. Was put to the test and put in a laborious shift.
Paul Pogba- 6/10
The Frenchman didn't really have an impact on his side. Tried to put on some flair but failed to do so.
Ander Herrera- 7/10
Had a predominant role in United's midfield trio. Linked up play and drove up the field with integrity.
Key Stat- Herrera completed 95% of his passes in the FA Cup final.
Jesse Lingard- 6/10
Lingard played with fire but wasn't able to leave any burns. Danced around in the final third but was unable to break down a tough Chelsea.
Alexis Sanchez- 6/10
The spicy Chilean has been utterly disappointing for United this season. Pushed forward and shot on Chelsea's goal but was inconsistent and dull.
Key Stat- Sanchez had 2 shots with neither of them on target.
Marcus Rashford- 6/10
Was Lukaku's understudy in United's final match of the season. Was unable to create any results and looked isolated at times.
Alvaro Morata- 6/10
Came on for Giroud in the dying minutes of the game.
Had no impact as he came on for Hazard in the 91st minute.
Anthony Martial- 6/10
Tried to spark United to fabricate a goal but was unable to. Touches and shots were both disappointing.
Romelu Lukaku- 6/10
Came on for Rashford but was unable to lead his team to victory.
Juan Mata- 6/10
Came on 87 minutes into the game to give a desperate United the goal they needed but couldn't source it out.
