Golden State Warriors Training Camp Preview

by Glenn Kaplan
by Glenn Kaplan

The Golden State Warriors are back-to-back NBA Champions and they have won the past three -out-of-four. Golden State should three-peat this season. This would be the first time since the 2000, 2001, and 2002 Los Angeles Lakers that a team three-peated.

Golden State has a loaded roster and they signed DeMarcus Cousins in the offseason to a one-year deal. A lot of people around the league had an issue with this happening, because they thought it was ruining the integrity of competition around the league.

To no surprise, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had no issue with it because the Golden State Warriors made those signings within the rules.

Many NBA fans think that the NBA season is already over before it begins because of Cousins signing with Golden State.

Steve Kerr has been a phenomenal coach so far during his tenure with the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors played the Cleveland Cavaliers in the past four NBA Finals and it hasn't happened in any sport. Golden State will probably not face Cleveland for the fifth straight season in the finals, but you never know. It will probably be either the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, or the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Celtics will be the biggest threat in the east to knock off the Warriors in a seven-game series. The Houston Rockets still remain the biggest threat out west to Golden State. Houston was up 3-2 on the Golden State Warriors last year in the Western Conference Finals. If it wasn't for a Chris Paul hamstring injury, the Warriors probably would not have went back-to-back.

Instead, the Warriors are on the brink of history this upcoming season. The last time a team won four titles in five seasons was the 1957 Boston Celtics and then they won eight championships in a row from 1959-1966.

I don't think the Golden State Warriors will be that type of team, but you never know. A lot of people might lose interest in the NBA if that actually happened.

DeMarcus Cousins will not be ready to start the season because he is still recovering from a torn Achilles injury he suffered back in January. Cousins will most likely come off the bench when he comes back.

Projected starting lineup: © Kevon Looney, (PF) Draymond Green, (SF) Kevin Durant, (SG) Klay Thompson, and (PG) Steph Curry.

Key bench players: © DeMarcus Cousins, (C/PF) Jordan Bell, (G) Quinn Cook, (F/G) Andre Iguodala, and Jonas Jerebko (F).

Kevin Durant has won NBA Finals MVP for the past two seasons and he is making a case for being the best player in the world. It would not be surprising if the Golden State Warriors broke their own 73-9 record this season. That record was set back in the 2015-2016 season, but they blew a 3-1 series lead in the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers that season.

It is unknown when the Golden State Warriors will open up training camp. They will open up the season at home on Tuesday October 16 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
