Is Kyrie Irving Planning to Leave the Celtics?
The Boston Celtics are worried that Kyrie Irving will leave instead of resign with them. Should the Celtics be worried?
After the Green Bay Packers lost 20-17 at home to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, the Packers front office has seen enough. They have decided to fire Head Coach Mike McCarthy and make Joe Philbin the interim coach for the remainder of the 2018 season.
Green Bay's current record this season is 4-7-1. Arizona had a 2-9 record heading into the day and with the win, they are now 3-9 this season.
The Green Bay Packers had high expectations heading into this season. It was Super Bowl or bust for them because Aaron Rodgers was full healthy this season. The Packers missed the playoffs last season with a 7-9 record.
Mike McCarthy has been the Green Bay Packers head coach since 2006. His overall record was 125-77-2. He has made it to the playoffs nine times with them. McCarthy won one Super Bowl with them and that was during the 2010 regular season and the 2011 postseason.
He will be picked up by another team soon. Maybe teams like the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or the Baltimore Ravens will interview him during the offseason.
There has been a possible rift inside the locker room between Mike McCarthy and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
A lot of people figured that Mike McCarthy was going to be out the door for them at the end of the season, but him being fired today was a surprise. The Green Bay Packers final four games will be against the Atlanta Falcons (4-8) at home, the Chicago Bears (8-4) on the road, the New York Jets (3-9) on the road, and the Detroit Lions (4-8) at home.
All of those games are winnable. Green Bay is not mathematically eliminated from postseason contention, but it is a long shot for them to make it at this point. The focus will be on 2019 at this point. If they win their final four games, maybe Joe Philbin will become the head coach next season. If not, then they should start finding someone else.
Some of the possible candidates for them could be Zac Taylor (Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach), Matt LaFleur (Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator), Dave Toub (Kansas City Chiefs special teams coach), Ben McAdoo (former New York Giants head coach), and Bruce Arians (former Arizona Cardinals coach).
