Top 10 NFL Teams Entering Week 7
Who are the top 10 teams entering Week 7 of the NFL season?
From Jimmy Butler openly griping about frustration with Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, to Towns leaving a huge contract extension on the table to this point, it's easy to forget the Minnesota Timberwolves ended a long playoff drought last year.
A meeting between Butler and Timberwolves management was originally reported to be happening on Monday. It's safe to say Towns should be involved in said meeting too, if only to get he and Butler on the same page.
Butler may be entering his second and final season with the Timberwolves, as he can opt out of his contract next summer. But he and coach/president of basketball operations Tom Thibodeau are connected at the hip, for better or worse in the big picture for the organization.
A meeting of the minds around the Timberwolves should have already happened, not on the precipice of training camp starting. Butler may not immediately demand a trade, but he seems to be fixated on what day the media reported the meeting would happen.
From criticism of Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg, to rumors he'd didn't get along with teammates, Butler could have been seen as a potential locker room cancer upon his arrival in Minnesota. Towns and Wiggins have their flaws, but good leadership is not taking to the media with comments that you're fed up with young teammates and that's the path Butler has chosen to take. Maybe with Thibodeau in agreement, or even with some level of his blessing, which is a whole different issue.
Butler is a great player, and the Timberwolves should be a playoff team again this coming year. But he's focused on when a meeting was reportedly going to happen, not the bigger issues surrounding his own approach off the court and that he should've (as a leader?) pushed for a meeting to happen with management (and/or Towns, perhaps separately) far sooner than Sept. 18.
