KD thinks superstars shouldn't join LeBron

Over the last four or five months, there have been several superstars rumored to be linked to the Los Angeles Lakers. Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis, and most recently Kevin Durant. Durant came out and spoke against all the reports. He thinks players will be reluctant to play with LeBron James.

Durant had an interview with the Bleacher Report and discussed what kind of players best suit LeBron. “It depends on the on the person. If you're Kyle Korver, then it makes sense. Because Kyle Korver in Atlanta was the bulk of the offense, and he's not a No. 1 option at all, not even close. His talents benefit more from a guy who can pass and penetrate.”

By that statement alone, KD implied that only shooters mesh well with LeBron. In some ways, he has a point. When he played for the Miami Heat, he had one of the greatest shooters on the roster. Mike Miller, James Jones, and Ray Allen are the most notable names to date. Nevertheless, KD had more to say.

“If you're a younger player like a Kawhi, trying to pair him with LeBron James doesn't really make sense. Kawhi enjoys having the ball in his hands and controlling the tempo. A lot of players are developing that skill. They don’t need another guy.”

That’s kind of funny coming from Durant because he joined the Golden State Warriors who didn’t need another guy. Now he wants to publicly say superstars don’t need to team up LeBron. No one needs to team up with KD either. Somehow, they still do.

Finally, KD complained about LeBron getting so much attention. “He has so many fanboys in the media. Even the beat writers just fawn over him. There is so much hype that comes from being around LeBron.” Jalen Rose responded to the comments on Get Up.

Rose made excellent points. If the media wasn’t talking about LeBron, they would be talking about Durant and the Warriors. KD sounds low key jealous of him. Furthermore, I think he is hinting at how he wants to approach free agency.

Next summer, Durant is unlikely to return to the Warriors. Now it appears he isn’t going to play for the Lakers either. If KD is publicly discouraging others to team up with LeBron, I think he wants superstars to join him instead.

Despite what Durant says, there will be players interested in playing with LeBron and the young core. Maybe not KD or Kawhi Leonard, but a big-time player will want to join the Lakers one way or another.
