Is Kyrie Irving Planning to Leave the Celtics?
The Boston Celtics are worried that Kyrie Irving will leave instead of resign with them. Should the Celtics be worried?
Celtics reporter A. Sherrod Blakely has gotten inside scoop that the Knicks organization is set on landing Irving. I don’t know why a Celtics reporter was the one to break this news but it’s great news nonetheless.
“I can tell you right now: The New York Knicks, he is their No. 1 target,” Blakely said.”I’ve spoken with people within (the Knicks) organization. They have made it absolutely crystal clear to me that, if they had their pick of guys that are going to be in the free-agent market (next) summer, Kyrie would be their first, second, third, and fourth choice. He is a guy they definitely want.”
Irving has said he wants to play for the Knicks and he may get his wish granted next summer. The Knicks want him badly and are going to pay him a lot to play for them. They have a point guard problem and Irving can finally solve that problem.
The Celtics must be pulling their hair out hearing this news. One of the reasons they would be doing that is because their future looks muddy. If they want to keep Irving, they have to let Terry Rozier go. But if Irving leaves next summer, Rozier will most likely stay and get paid.
In order to make a sound decision, the Celtics will need to know what Irving plans to do. I think they should let Irving leave because they have young players ready to step up. Rozier is no Irving but he is a great basketball player who is still improving.
Targeting Irving is a great idea because he is a great scorer and comes up big when needed. He has been plagued by injuries throughout his career but when healthy, he is a top three point guard. If the Knicks do end up getting Irving, they may finally turn their luck around.
