Lakers get huge endorsement from star player

Earlier this week reports came out which stated San Antonio star Kawhi Leonard wanted out and has the Los Angeles Lakers as one of his top choices to join. Many of the stories have been about how the Lakers can acquire Leonard in a trade with the Spurs, but Leonard has also given the Lakers a huge boost to sign free agents this summer.

Its not a secret that the Los Angeles Lakers have been an awful team for the past few years. They are trying to rebuild with young talented players from the draft and management is hoping to add one or two free agents who can help the team win this summer. Yet the last couple of summers big name free agents, like Durant, have opted out of speaking with the Lakers. Yet Leonard wanting to join the Lakers is a big boost going into meetings with free agents this summer.

With Kawhi saying he prefers joining the Lakers, the team can use that to open doors which where once closed to them. They have received an unexpected endorsement from a player many consider a star in the league. This will allow the Lakers to speak with star free agents who may not have considered them a legitimate team to try and win a title.

When free agency begins this summer the Lakers will find themselves talking to many of the star free agents, and it will be thanks to Kawhi Leonard saying he would leave the Spurs to join the Lakers. Now its up to Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka to use this gift and try and sell free agents on joining a young Lakers squad.
