Let's squash this rookie beef

Ben Simmons is the Rookie of the Year, this contest has been over since the moment he walked onto the NBA court for the first time. If his debut didn't signal the end to the ROTY race, his first triple double should have put it to rest. The fact Ben Simmons put up 11 more triple doubles should end any doubt as to who is taking it home. For extra icing on the cake, Simmons and his 76ers are on a 14 game win streak where he's averaging a triple double. Game over Donovan.

Don't get me wrong, Donovan Mitchell has been a stud for the Utah Jazz. The 21 year old rookie is averaging 20.5 points per game for a very surprising Utah team that's post season bound. Mitchell is actually averaging the most points per game out of the entire rookie class. Unfortunately his game isn't as well rounded or as eye popping, dunks and crossovers aside, as Ben's is.

I love NBA beef, especially when its between two legitimate up and coming stars in the league. While Donovan can attempt to throw shade at Ben this year over being a “rookie” and Ben easily laughing it off, Mitchell doesn't have a case this year. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a wonderful rivalry between two of the brightest young stars in the league. My popcorn is ready for the next time these two see one another.
