Minnesota Vikings Look Fresh on Offense

by Glenn Kaplan
by Glenn Kaplan

The Minnesota Vikings decided to fire Offensive Coordinator John DeFilippo earlier in the week after Minnesota lost 21-7 on the road last Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks. Quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski took over the play calls for the Vikings.

The offense was much more in sync for them against the Miami Dolphins. They were able to balance the running game and passing game and that is what Head Coach Mike Zimmer wants.

Minnesota only passed for 215 yards and they rushed for 220 yards. Less from Kirk Cousins might actually be good a thing for this football team. They shouldn't have to rely on Cousins passing the ball 40 to 50 times every game. He can do it occasionally, but it isn't healthy for their offense to do that.

The Minnesota Vikings scored 41 points today against the Miami Dolphins at home and that is the most they have scored all season long. The most amount of points they scored when DeFilippo was calling the plays was 37 points back in Week 7 on the road against the New York Jets.

The Vikings current record is 7-6-1 and they are currently holding onto the sixth and final playoff spot in the NFC. Minnesota's final two games will be against the Detroit Lions (5-9) on the road and the Chicago Bears (10-4) at home. It is quite possible that the Vikings will face Chicago two weeks in a row.

If the Minnesota Vikings make it to the playoffs, they could be one of the most dangerous six seeds we have seen in a long time.

If the offense plays like this, they could go toe-to-toe with anyone. The defense is getting better week-to-week. The way the Minnesota Vikings played today is the way it was supposed to look all year long offensively.

A lot of people question Kirk Cousins because of how poorly he plays in prime time contests. A lot of people also blame him for the firing of DeFilippo, but Cousins has silenced his critics for the moment.

Assuming they make it to the playoffs, he is going to have to perform big time for them. Case Keenum was the Minnesota Vikings quarterback last season and they won 13 games in the regular season. They reached the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota was man handled in that game.

There was a reason why Kirk Cousins was signed to a three-year deal worth $84 million for Minnesota, in order to deliver them their first Super Bowl title in franchise history. Will see how Stefanski calling the plays for the rest of the year after this game unravels for them.
