Joel Embiid Should be Considered an MVP Candidate
It is only January and a lot of people are talking about either James Harden or Giannis Antetokounmpo to win the MVP, but what about Joel Embiid?
Just to recap the MLB postseason so far, the Colorado Rockies took down the Chicago Cubs in the National Wild Card Game and the New York Yankees took down the Oakland Athletics in the American League Wild Card Game. If I made wild card predictions on my blog, I actually would have gone with the Colorado Rockies and the New York Yankees as well.
The NLDS and the ALDS concluded on Tuesday night. I went 4-0 with those picks. The Houston Astros swept the Cleveland Indians, the Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees in four games, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves in four games, and the Milwaukee Brewers swept the Colorado Rockies.
With that in mind, the NLCS will begin on Friday night and the ALCS will begin on Saturday night.
NLCS: (2) Los Angeles Dodgers vs (1) Milwaukee Brewers: This has the potential to be a very fun series. Both teams have very good lineups, but both pitching staffs are very underrated. Milwaukee likes to use the bullpen more than Los Angeles. The Dodgers have a better starting rotation, but the Brewers have a better bullpen. The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to get back to the World Series for the second consecutive season. The Milwaukee Brewers are looking to get back to the World Series for the first time since 1982. Manny Machado, Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner, and Max Muncy will be key players in the Dodgers lineup. Christian Yelech, Travis Shaw, Jesus Aguilar, and Lorenzo Cain will be key players in the Brewers lineup. The difference in this series will be which team plays harder and smarter. The pick: Milwaukee in 6.
ALCS: (2) Houston Astros vs (1) Boston Red Sox: These two teams were the best teams in baseball during the regular season. They both won over 100 games. Both of these teams have elite offenses. Houston is looking to go back-to-back and Boston is looking to get back to the World Series for the first time since 2013. The manager match up in this series will be very interesting. A.J. Hinch is the Astros manager and Alex Cora is the Red Sox manager. Cora was Houston's bench coach last season. They both have similar philosophies. The difference in this series will be the Houston Astros starting rotation. The pick: Houston in 6.
