One Month Into the Season, Pittsburgh Penguins Look Solid

After getting an extra month of rest in the offseason, the Pittsburgh Penguins have shown far this season that they have taken advantage of it. They currently lead the Metropolitan Division with a 6-2-2 record with 14 points. Pittsburgh has scored 43 goals and given up 32 goals so far this season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have shown energy in every game this season. Mike Sullivan is responsible for this.

Evgeni Malkin was named second star of the month for October. He has scored six goals and recorded 13 assists so far this season. Malkin leads the Penguins in points with 19. His plus/minus is 4.

Phil Kessel has scored seven goals and recorded eight assists. His plus/minus is 6. Sidney Crosby has scored six goals and recorded eight assists so far this season. He has scored all six of those goals in the last four games. His plus/minus is 9. Sidney Crosby has acknowledged as Edmonton Oilers centerman Connor McDavid as the best player in the world.

Kris Letang is having a bounce back season. He has scored four goals and recorded seven assists. Letang's plus/minus is 8. He is currently sidelined with a lower body injury.

Speaking of injuries, Justin Schultz and Derrick Brassard are dealing with injuries of there own. Schultz will be out another few months and it is unknown how long Brassard will be out for.

Jake Guentzel, Dominik Simon, and Jamie Oleksiak each have recorded seven points this season.

Daniel Sprong has been a major disappointment this season. He has only played in nine games and Sprong hasn't scored a goal yet. He has recorded four assists and his plus/minus is -3.

Casey DeSmith is having a nice season as a back up goalie. His record is 2-0-2 with a .932 save percentage and a 2.22 GAA, along with one shutout. Matt Murray has been inconsistent this season. He has already missed a few games with a concussion. His record is 4-2 with a .893 save percentage and a 3.76 GAA, along with one shutout.

The goaltending situation could be a dilemma as the season moves on, but the Pittsburgh Penguins hope not.

Jack Johnson isn't the worth the money on defense and Juuso Riikola is has been good so far this season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will play 14 games this month and it won't be an easy month. Thirteen out of the 14 games this month will be against teams that are at least .500 or better.
