Is Kyrie Irving Planning to Leave the Celtics?
The Boston Celtics are worried that Kyrie Irving will leave instead of resign with them. Should the Celtics be worried?
“In the next few days I'll give an answer to the fans,” Ronaldo told Bein Sports.
Just seconds after receiving a record fifth Champions League winners medal, the Real Madrid forward appeared to have hinted at a possible departure from the Spanish capital. Real Madrid beat Liverpool by 3-1 in Kiev on Saturday night and the Real legend immediately made comments regarding his future at the club. Ronaldo has been the top scorer this season with 15 goals and has scored a record 120 goals in total in the competition and also holds the record of being the only player to win 5 Champions League's trophies.
However the 33-year-old Portugal international has been said to be unhappy with his current conditions and has been wanting to leave the 13-time European Champions for several reasons which we will explore later. We will also look at the possible destinations he could go if he leaves Los Blancos.
Ronaldo: “It was beautiful to be at Real Madrid. The future of any Madrid player is not important; we have just made history.“
The Real players were said to angered by Ronaldo's declarations just moments after the final and Captain Sergio Ramos said that Ronaldo must clarify the situation:
Sergio Ramos: “If there is something there, he must clarify it today. He is a key piece for us. He could not be in a better place.”
However Ronaldo remained defiant and has certainly got something in mind. He said he would make an announcement in the next few days about his future and we could be in for a bombshell.
Ronaldo: “Perhaps they need to change the name of the Champions League to the CR7 Champions League. Who has the most titles and who has the most goals?“
Why does Cristiano Ronaldo want out ?
Having won it all, he may want a new challenge, that's the obvious. However, the poor relationship with the club's president, salary demands, and the tax evasion case are all possible reasons for Ronaldo to want out of the Spanish capital.
Ronaldo has had a difficult relationship with the Club President Perez, who has not been willing to re-negotiate a new contract with the Portuguese star. Despite helping his club to win 5 trophies in 2017 his wages remain below both Neymar’s and Messi’s.
Neymar’s new contract in Paris and Messi’s new contract with Barça are more lucrative than Ronaldo’s and though he has requested a re-valuation to reflect his achievements last year, none has been granted.
He also requested the club to pay part of his estimated 14 million euros of unpaid taxes from image rights but to no avail. Ronaldo’s frustration appears to have reached its limit and was already willing to leave club last summer.
Who would be the front-runners to buy Ronaldo, Manchester United, PSG?
Manchester, the most likely destination, though Mourinho is not sure
United fans may be fortunate to see the return of former Manchester player to the Premier League club this summer. United are also said to be interested in his return however the current coach Jose Mourinho is not sure about his Portuguese compatriot and has mentioned in the past that he is “too old” or “past his best”.
Though that was several months ago, he recently stated that “Ronaldo” was a hot topic he did not want to talk about at the moment. In our opinion, it could be argued that if Manchester want, Manchester get! And even without Mourinho’s full consent, the owners could simply impose Ronaldo as their first choice transfer target in the summer, if he makes himself available.
Ronaldo the returning hero?
He certainly still has the talent and would surely be “hailed as a returning hero” after his glorious time with the Premier League club, where he won 3 Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Champions League.
Also, Ronaldo’s commercial value is superior to that of both Neymar and Messi. He is simply the most valuable player in terms of commercial revenue and that fact keeps Manchester’s owners on the edge of their seat. Even at 33, Ronaldo would strengthen the team and generate revenue the club would considerably benefit from for the next three years or so.
PSG have the financial backing from their Qatari partners - though under financial fair-play investigation over the signing of Mbappé - and Ronaldo would match the ambitions of the club who so desperately want to win the European Cup and compete with Europe’s elite clubs.
PSG with Ronaldo could be “the real big deal” and he would seriously help the club in their quest for a first Champions League title. Though it is very unlikely, PSG with both Ronaldo and Neymar could be an even more formidable force, even though, as we mentioned earlier Neymar is also a target for the Madrid club, and could move the other way.
Nonetheless PSG is one of the most likely destinations at the moment.
The commercial factor is also important for the owners of the LA Galaxy, who are looking at further developing Ronaldo as a brand in the USA. He would then be in line with the kind of earnings that Messi and Neymar are receiving at their respective clubs. Though this may not be likely at the moment it may make sense for Ronaldo in 2 or 3 years time.
Real Madrid are apparently willing to let the mega-star leave the Bernabéu however Ronaldo’s current contract runs until 2021. Ronaldo’s current market value is £106million and a number of clubs could reach that asking price to sign him in the summer. If this can be done with the accord of the club, Ronaldo could be set to leave the Spanish giants within weeks.
Neymar, Kane, Mbappé. Are Real looking for a new Generation of Galacticos ?
We suppose that club may have other intentions and their disappointing performance in La Liga - Madrid finished 3rd this season - could also be a reason why they may wish to sell Ronaldo and maybe Gareth Bale in the aim of recruiting a new generation of Galacticos such as Harry Kane, Neymar, Mbappé, or even Eden Hazard.
Real are apparently most interested in Tottenham’s Harry Kane and are believed to be willing to break the transfer record with a bid over the £ 200 million PSG paid for Neymar. As for Neymar, he is said to be very interested in a return to Spain and Real Madrid is a serious option if Barcelona does not wish to bring back the 26-year-old Brazilian to the Camp Nou.
Bale out, Kane in?
If Real were to sell Ronaldo or Gareth Bale they would need to replace him or them with players of reputable stature such as Harry Kane, Neymar or Eden Hazard and create a team around their new Galacticos.
In this case others could also see the exit such as Benzema, Modric or Casemiro as they bid to strengthen the squad. To add to the speculation Bale declared just after the game that he was disappointed not to have started the final against Liverpool - despite his two winning goals - and wants more playing time. The Welshman said that he will speak with his agent and the club before he makes a decision on his future :
Bale : “I need to be playing week in, week out, and that's not happened this season,” Bale told BT Sport
Bale who has been at the club since 2013, has won 4 Champions League's trophies and has a contract that runs until 2022 but has been heavily linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
It could actually be the perfect time for both players to leave the club especially for Bale if he wants more playing time. For Real Madrid, there is a problem of how to bring new motivation to both Bale and Ronaldo after winning three Champions League's.
Whatever Ronaldo decides, he will give his answer in the next few days….
“It was beautiful to be at Real Madrid. The future of any Madrid player is not important; we have just made history.”
What do you think? Will Ronaldo leave Madrid this summer?
