The NBA is debating whether or not they want Jimmy Butler. Yesterday, Butler let the Minnesota Timberwolves know that he wants to be traded. The New York Knicks were one of his destinations but they don't seem to be interested much.
Getting Butler will be pricey and I think that the Knicks don't want to give up any pieces for him. Waiting and building up is the Knicks plan and its working out for them. They don't want to trade those pieces away for Butler and ruin a good thing.
If the Knicks were to open discussion with the Wolves, the first player that the Wolves will ask for is rookie Kevin Knox. He looked great in preseason and his potential seems to be very high. The next player the Wolves will ask for is the other rookie, Mitchell Robinson and the Knicks like him a lot.
I think that the Knicks have their eyes set on a few players and will go after them first before doing anything else. Last week, it was reported that the Knicks really want Kyrie Irving. It looks like he will be the first player that gets consideration before the Knicks do anything else. That is a great move by the Knicks because they need a point guard to become a complete team.
Butler is a great player but I don't think he alone is going to help the Knicks become good. Instead, they need a player like Irving who can score and fit the roster. If Butler is still a free agent in the summer, the Knicks will definitely talk to Butler but he isn't on their radar this early on.
From what is being said, it looks like Butler will most likely end up with the Los Angeles Clippers. They are a big market team, have a lot of cap space and are actually interested in signing big name players. Butler wants to team up with another superstar and the Clippers can make that happen.
The drama surrounding Butler has been insane lately. It makes everything more interesting but teams usually hate these types of things. We will have to wait and see if any team backs out because of the ensuing drama happening on social media at the moment.
