NBA First Half Awards
With the season just over halfway done, let's look at the major awards. Feel free to disagree but it's James Hardens world right now and we're just living in it.
Entering Sunday's game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Redskins, this was a big game for both teams. The Falcons smothered the Redskins 38-14, and it should present a major alarm for Washington.
Atlanta improves to 4-4 and Washington drops to 5-3. The Redskins currently have a one game lead on the 4-4 Philadelphia Eagles. If the Dallas Cowboys win tomorrow night, they will be 4-4.
There will be a couple of reasons why the Washington Redskins will not win the NFC East. The first reason is Alex Smith. When Smith has to face elite offenses, he can not keep up with them.
Two perfect examples would be the game this afternoon and the New Orleans Saints game on the road. The Redskins lost that game 48-19.
Alex Smith has only completed 63.5 percent of his passes this season for 1,867 yards nine touchdowns and three interceptions. Smith can not stretch the field and he is a game manager.
The second reason why Washington will not win the division is because of a quarterback named Carson Wentz on the Philadelphia Eagles. He has missed the first two games of the regular season. Wentz has completed 70.7 percent of his passes for 1,788 yards 13 touchdowns and two interceptions.
He takes many chances down the field and it opens up the Eagles offense.
The Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins will meet each other twice in the month of December, including a Week 17 match up in Washington. That game could very well decide the NFC East and the loser could very well be sitting on the couch the following week.
The Eagles and the Redskins both have good defenses, but Smith's mediocrity will cost this team. Getting rid of Kirk Cousins will hurt this team. Cousins has the Minnesota Vikings to a 5-3-1 start. Patrick Mahomes is lighting it up for the Kansas City Chiefs and they are off to a 8-1 start.
