New Orleans Pelicans Are On the Verge of Losing Anthony Davis
The New Orleans Pelicans may lose Anthony Davis if they keep nonperforming. Should Pelican fans be worried?
Plainfield, NJ native Jameel Warney and the Dallas Mavericks played at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks on Tuesday. It's only a little over an hour away from Island Federal Credit Union Arena where Warney shined at Stony Brook University.
Warney played 12 minutes in his second game with the Dallas Mavericks (22-46) scoring eight points and three bounds. The Mavericks defeated the Knicks 110-97 and Warney shot 4-7 from the field. The Mavericks are 1-1 since adding Warney to their roster. He went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft. Warney has averaged 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in two games with the Mavericks.
It wasn't easy at all for Warney to get to this point. He play two seasons in the G-League with the Texas Legends under coach Bob MacKinnon who has the most players called up to the NBA in G-League history. He averaged 18.5 points and 8.8 rebounds at the G-League level.
Warney grew up a New Jersey Nets fan and making it to the NBA is something he's dreamed of. The 6-8 260 pound players played his second game in his 10-day NBA contract with Dallas.
“It’s definitely a dream come true,” Warney said. “It just shows never give up on your dream. A lot of people said I couldn’t do it because I’m 6-8, labeled chubby and not athletic. But I’m finally here and I’ve got to make the best of this moment.”
Warney had all the talents and utilized them to earn an NCAA Tournament bid with Stony Brook back in 2016 as a senior. He could score, rebound, pass and play defense. The only thing he couldn't do was shoot the ball and he's actually developed a three-point shot in the G-League.
The Maverick look to extend this winning streak on the road against the hot Toronto Raptors (50-1717) on Friday who have won nine staight games. Then, Dallas goes to Brooklyn to play the Nets (21-47) the day after. The Mavericks are already eliminated from playoff contention and are currently 12th in a tough Western Conference.
