NFL Week 11 Predictions and Bold Predictions
With the playoff chase heating up, who will win and lost this week's games? What are the bold predictions?
The New York Mets already made one move this offseason and that was hiring General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen. He has the clear focus of getting a catcher this offseason and upgrading the bullpen.
Brodie Van Wagenen is 100 percent correct about this, but where else should the New York Mets focus this offseason after missing the playoffs for the past two seasons?
He should try and find maybe another starting pitcher, but it is possible the Mets go within the system and call up prospect Justin Dunn at some point next season. Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, and Zack Wheeler are locks to be in the rotation next season. Jason Vargas got better towards at the end of the season and Steven Matz was a problem.
If New York could find another starter, I would try and move Matz to the bullpen. Seth Lugo was effective in a mid-relieving role last season. They need to find a closer. Andrew Miller's name has been rumored a lot to sign with the Mets. He did play with the New York Yankees a couple of years ago and maybe Miller wants to go back there.
I am sure the New York Mets will try to sign multiple bullpen pieces and not just one.
Will the Mets try and trade for Miami Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto? Would it be cheaper for them to sign free agent Yasmani Grandal? Anyone of those two is a major upgrade compared to what they have had in the past.
If one of those two are signed, they will be the starting catcher in 2019. Peter Alonso will most likely beat Dominic Smith for the starting first baseman job in 2019. Jeff McNeil will be the starting second baseman. Amed Rosario will be the starting shortstop in 2019. Wilmer Flores and Todd Frazier will compete for the starting third baseman job in 2019. It would be nice for them to sign Manny Machado and have him play third base. That would be a monster upgrade and Flores would become a valuable utility player.
Michael Conforto, Brandon Nimmo, and Jay Bruce will most likely be the starting outfield in 2019. Juan Lagares will be the fourth outfielder. Yoenis Cespedes will most likely be sidelined the entire 2019 season because of heel surgery. They could try to sign Bryce Harper but it would be a terrible fit for the New York Mets.
Michael Brantley or A.J. Pollock would make more sense for this team, but I think they will both go back to the teams they played for last season.
In reality, other than trying to upgrade the bullpen and get a catcher, they will relatively be quiet during the MLB offseason.
