The Golden State Warriors have just won the last three out of four NBA Championships. Even though they are a modern day dynasty, the Golden State Warriors are not satisfied and are looking for more titles. Anthony Davis's name has been mentioned in trade talks to the Golden State Warriors. Will it actually happen?
The New Orleans Pelicans finished with a 48-34 in the western conference and they were the sixth seed. The Pelicans swept away the Portland Trail Blazers in the playoffs thanks in large to Anthony Davis. New Orleans didn't even have DeMarcus Cousins since January because of a torn Achilles injury.
Davis actually stole a game against the Golden State Warriors in the second-round, but the Pelicans lost in five games. Cousins is a free agent and the Pelicans probably won't re-sign him. Anthony Davis is locked up for another three years. He is owed $25.4 million in 2018-2019, $27.09 million in 2019-2020, and $28.751 million in 2020-2021.
It's hard to believe that the Pelicans would trade a top-five player in the NBA in Anthony Davis and he is the main reason why Pelicans fans come to the games. If you lose him, it will be troubling.
Anthony Davis averaged 28.1 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 2.3 APG, 2.6 BPG, and 1.5 SPG during the regular season. He averaged 30.1 PPG, 13.4 RPG, 1.7 APG, 2.3 BPG, and 2.0 SPG during the postseason.
Who would the Golden State Warriors trade in order to get Anthony Davis? It is very possible that they would have to break up the core. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green would have to be a part of the deal in order to even things out. Andre Iguodala and draft picks would also be involved in that deal as well. It is quite possible Golden State would probably give up two to three first round picks.
Klay Thompson is owed $18.9 million next season and then he becomes an unrestricted free agent after that. Thompson is actually close to signing a contract extension.
He averaged 20 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 2.5 APG, 0.5 BPG, and 0.8 SPG during the regular season. Thompson averaged 19.6 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 1.8 APG, 0.3 BPG, and 0.8 SPG during the postseason.
Draymond Green is owed $17.4 million in 2018-2019 and $18.5 million in 2019-2020. He will be an unrestricted free agent after that and there have been no signs about a possible contract extension for Draymond Green.
He averaged 11 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 7.3 APG, 1.3 BPG, and 1.4 SPG during the regular season. Draymond Green averaged 10.8 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 8.1 APG, 1.5 BPG, and 2.0 SPG during the postseason.
Andre Iguodala is owed $16 million next season and he is owed $17.185 million in 2019-2020. Iguodala will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2019-2020 season.
He averaged 6.0 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 3.3 APG, 0.6 BPG, and 0.8 SPG during the regular season. Andre Iguodala averaged 8.1 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.5 BPG, and 1.4 SPG.
If the Golden State Warriors are going to trade for Anthony Davis, it needs to be this summer because Klay Thompson is only under contract for one more season. New Orleans wouldn't take just Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala and draft picks the year after. Klay Thompson would be the best player that the Pelicans would receive in that trade.
The Warriors shouldn't make any adjustments because if it ain't broke, why fix it. The odds are it probably won't happen, but you never know.
